GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION El Salvador is strategically located in Central America, between the northern and southern part of the American Continent. To the west, it borders with the Republic of Guatemala, to the north with the Republic of Honduras, to the east with Republics of Honduras and Nicaragua, on the waters of the Gulf of Fonseca and to the south with the Pacific Ocean. The territorial extension is approximately 20,742 square kilometers; it has an extension of 296 kilometers on the Pacific litoral which extends throughout the whole length of the country.
CLIMATE El Salvador enjoys tropical climate throughout the year, which allows tourists to visit the beach, admire the beauty of the Salvadoran women and warm hospitality of their people. The beaches are located at a mere 30 minutes away from the main cities. At the same time, there are natural vegetation tourist spots and the wonderful hand made handicrafts that can be purchased.
POPULATION El Salvador has a population of approximately
6.2 million inhabitants and nearly one million Salvadorans
residing and working in the United States of America.
Considering its hemispheric position, eminently tropical,
throughout the year it enjoys excellent climatic conditions.
The rainy season, lasts from May until October and the
summer season from November to April. The average annual
temperature is 25°C (77°F).
CURRENCY The official currency of the country is the Colón. The rate of exchange has maintained itself at ˘8.75 per U.S. Dollar. Credit cards and Dollars are also accepted.

The supermarkets and shopping malls are open all day on
Saturdays and Sundays. Government:
Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m
HOLIDAYS: 1st January (New Year's Day); Wednesday, Thursday, Good Friday (Easter Week); 1st May (Labor Day); 2-6 August (Patron Saint Holidays, City of San Salvador); 15th September (Independence Day); 2nd November (All Saint's Day) and 25th December, (Christmas).
RELIGION: There is freedom of religion; the Catholic religion is one of the most practiced religions
OFFICIAL LANGUAGE: The official language is Spanish; however there is a considerable number of persons who speak English, particularly in the business environment.
REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO ENTER INTO THE COUNTRY: A passport and visa, or a tourist card valid for 90 days is necessary to enter into the country. The Consulates and Embassies issue both services and the tourist cards may be acquired at the points of entry into the country. A permission to extend the stay in the country may be requested at the General Immigration Office, before the expiration date of the visa, which was granted to enter into the country.
